Irene Visscher is a professor UAS at Saxion Hogeschool, with a focus on innovative and effective education. She investigates, supports, and participates in curriculum and teaching innovation projects, determines the effects, and acts as an advisor for teachers and management. Until march '24, she was Academic Director of the Master programme Educational Leadership, and teaches the courses Vision & People, and Personal Leadership. She had a role in the formulation of the Saxion UAS educational vision and is now involved in several research projects, studying design and implementation initiatives stemming from this vision. In June 2020, she received a Comenius Leadership Grant for the project TALENT(S): Talent-driven Authentic Learning EnvironmeNTs (that are Student-centered). In 2023 she became project leader of a national research project CONNECTS (CONstructing New Educational Configurations for Transforming Society), funded by NRO, on transdisciplinary education.
She has been a member of the National Program Committee Higher Education in the Netherlands (2018-2024), responsible for the substantive guidance and scientific coordination of national research programs (NRO).
Before entering Saxion, Irene was Director of the Program Office Bachelor Educational innovation at the University of Twente, supporting teachers in redesigning and implementing the bachelor programs into a module system (TOM), with Project Led Education, as well as head of the Centre of Expertise in Learning & Teaching. Before, Irene was director of education of the Ba and Ma programmes Educational Science & Technology at the University of Twente. She holds a master's degree from the same program. In 1999, she obtained her Ph.D. with a thesis on design methodology in training and education.
Irene has ample experience in teaching, with subjects related to instructional or curriculum design, design methodology, and systematic reflection.
