Guevara Lopez graduated in Mathematics from Institute of Higher Education Jose Marti, University of Camaguey, Cuba in 1987, completed a PhD degree in Technical Sciences at Institute of Cybernetics, Mathematics and Physics, Havana, Cuba in 1997 – Degree recognized as equivalent to the European PhD degree in Computer Science Engineering at Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal in 2013. He has experience as a professor and researcher (over 36 years) in the field of Computer Science (April 1988 to the present). From a technical and scientific point of view, he has got a deep expertise in the use of digital image processing techniques, pattern recognition, machine (deep) learning, data analysis and visualization, computer vision and artificial intelligence, particularly in applications in the fields of plant biotechnology (support systems to facilitate image interpretation tasks [micro and macroscopic]), biomedical sciences (image and biomedical data analysis, development of support systems for image diagnosis in cancer, clinical decision support systems), and in industry (development of automated artificial vision systems, optical inspection algorithms, defect detection, object recognition, visual computing and condition monitoring, among other applications related to the paradigm of the Industry 4.0/5.0). As a university professor, he has got deep experience teaching several subjects in computer science courses (1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles), specifically in curricular units related to artificial intelligence, data analysis and visualization, and digital image processing / computer vision. He gained experience in coordinating Bachelor's (2000-2002) and Master's (2001-2007) courses, where he coordinated curricular units, such as, Artificial Intelligence and Digital Image Processing. Summing up, he has published 39 articles in peer review journals, 2 books, 15 book chapters and 47 papers in cutting-edge conference proceedings. He participated as researcher in 45 national and international scientific projects (30 as principal investigator). He has been very active in promoting (national and international) academic and industrial links. He completed the supervision of 2 Postdoctoral student, 3 PhD students and 14 Master of Science students.
